The very nice thing about Viscosity is that it is so user friendly that even a complete novice can easily get started with it and it has so much handy functionality to offer that it will put a smile on the face of advanced users. What sort of user friendly yet powerful functionality does Viscosity offer? Well, this SparkLabs-developed application is an OpenVPN client – use it to create and connect to virtual private networks.

Viscosity is available for Mac OS X and Windows operating systems. The Windows installation file is close to 4MB in size. Get this file, run it, and you will be presented with a setup wizard that will guide you through the installation process. It won’t take long to complete the setup, and that is always a nice thing.

While Viscosity is running, you will see an icon in the system tray. Double click this icon and you will be presented with the Preferences window, a window that features four tabs in the upper left hand corner:
Connections – presents a list of all existing connections, allows you to create new connections.
General – let the application start at login, reconnect active connections on wake, disconnect connections after a certain period of inactivity, automatically check for updates, import OpenVPN connections.
Appearance – choose one of various menu icons, choose to see the IP address in menu, set the details window to be always on top.
Advanced – access a few advanced settings.

As mentioned above, you can use Viscosity to create virtual private networks. Through its intuitive interface, you will find it easy to create and configure OpenVPN connections. There are two ways of creating a connection: start from scratch and create a new connection or import a connection. Once you have your connections, you will find it quite easy to manage them with Viscosity.

Viscosity is not free, it is only free to try for an evaluation period of 30 days.

The Viscosity OpenVPN client nicely blends together ease of use with functionality and offers its powerful functionality to Windows and Mac users alike.

Pros

Viscosity is available for Windows and Mac. The application’s interface is intuitive and easy to use. Create new connections, import connections, view traffic statistics, and more. Viscosity is used by small and large companies around the world.

Cons

Free to use for 30 days.
